I talked to Comcast and they said that there is a CD that has to be
installed as it has the drivers, etc. necessary to connect to the Cable.
 I understood from what people on the list said that you should not
install any software.  Apparently this particular software is necessary.
 

Can someone explain further what you mean by not installing any
software?
