? I see. It is true that you need to reformat the disc and all that. In fact, I needed somebody to reformat my computer for me. A process that I would rather done it myself.

The learning curve doesn't worry me; that's never been a problem with
any Windows OS. Having to completely reformat my system is another
matter. I think I saw some pieces on Tech Republic on how to create a
dual boot system, and later simply drop the older OS, as a way to avoid
reformatting. My wireless keyboard has several cool keys tied to
specific apps or app types, and replicating the look and feel of my
present machine would involve more than just recreating my office suite
and e-mail.

I may have to do something, as my machine has a lot of life left in it.
Besides, I understand 7 requires lower overhead than either of its two
immediate predecessors.

?Ted:

Really, upgrading to windows 7 isn't so bad. I thought that it was going
to
be a pain to get use to it (I could never get used to vista, it was a
pain).
But it turns I was wrong. It only took me like 4 hours and most of that
time
I was trying to get use to the control pannel. Other than that, it was a

breeze. No major problems. Very easy, very lite and all that. Mind, I
had
some problems with the language of my OS. The person that installed it
put
the "text language" in english but the "os language" in spanish. So,
guess
what, jaws didn't work at first. After a couple of days I found the
problem
and I just switch the language to english and there we go. No more
problems.
Besides, on XP my computer got a blue screen once a week. On win 7, no
blue
screen since I upgrade it.

There are of corse some getting used to envolved. But is just like any
major
upgrade. New features, new ways to do things and new things we don't
like.
But is part of the deal. Sadly, technology is moving very fast forward
and
we must try to keep up. If not when we do keep up is going to be harder
and
if we don't keep up it is going to be difficult to compete with our
peers.

I'll cover that bet. Guess I'll just have to limp along, or go back
to
10, as OS upgrades these days are more trouble than they're worth. I
used to be right on top of that stuff, but DOS upgrades were easy,
relatively inexpensive, and nondestructive, none of which apply to
Windows. What really bugs me, though, is how well XP works with
Access
2007--quick, easy, and stable.

Ted,

Had no idea that you'd gotten to the point of working with John
Carson.
He's
one of the escalation team for issues that are repeatable and known.
If
indeed the issue is with XP then I'm going to put my head on the block
and
bet that it doesn't ever get resolved, since Windows 7 is here and
JAWS
is
being written to handle W7.

XP support and bug fixes are a thing of the past, I'm betting.

The access problem cropped up with 11. After professing ignorance for
a
year, John Carson, a fellow with whom I'd never before spoken, said
the
company is aware of the problem, and that it affects XP systems.
Whether or not they plan to fix it is anyone's guess.

?It doesn't work with access? That's weird. Very weird. I can't check
though. I don't have access myself. But, correct me if I'm wrong, but
FS

says that jaws works with access. It's on the help file under popular
aplications. Of corse, that doesn't mean anything. On the help file it
says
that it works with windows life messenger and yet, it doesn't work
with
windows life messenger 2011.

I'd be happy if it worked properly with Access, which, as far as I
can
tell, it doesn't. Of course, I haven't tried the commercial release
yet, but I have no reason to anticipate change. Cool features don't
negate poor performance on basic apps.

?I agree with all of you. Jaws 12 rocks! It is better than 10 by far
(and 10
was the best version of jaws I have ever used). It is responsive, the
new
features are amizing (specially the virtual ribbon and the settings
center)
and it just works. The only thing I can say bad about it is the fact
that it
doesn't work well with windows life messenger 2011, yet.

In what way? I say it rocks as well, but for me it's the
responsiveness,
reliability, and the new features.
