Whether or not one could detect the sound of the letters while one type
could have something to do with how fast one types.
When I have the cap lock key on and then type a letter while hitting the
shift the computer makes an unoverlookable "beep" sound.
This has saved my bacon upon numerous occasions. Without this I will
discover that the shift lock was on before I send the message but then I
will have to retype some or all of the message and that is a real pain.

I'm surprised that you'll need a sound for your caps lock key. You
should be able to hear the sounds of the letters as you type the sound
