When I press Control-K, JAWS places a temporary place marker, no matter which
browser I use. It does not open a Google search edit field in Firefox, unless
I first use the JAWS Bypass key command, JAWS key-num row 3. .

  Hi Gerald,

I, too, have experienced this annoying glitch since Firefox 3.5. Another way
to solve this problem that I've discovered is, rather than typing your search
into the search field in Google, when you want to do a Google search, just hit
control k from whatever page you happen to be at, and Firefox will bring up a
Google search box to type into. Nifty little feature... very convenient.

Hope this might prove a helpful alternative for you.

  Warmest,
  Kim
