most likely, you are not doing anything rong, but did you try saving it as a 
text file?  If this cannot be done, it is most likely that the pdf to txt 
converter won't work either.  Often, a pdf file does not have text in it 
that can be read by a screen reader.  Someone can see it on the screen 
because it is an image of text and you can process it through ocr, but adobe 
reader does not perform ocr.

Hi David,
The status line says 1 of 1, doing ctrl-pagedown doesn't help, and Jaws key
T shows that I'm in the right window.

I have just sent the file to that pdf to txt e-mail address to be converted
in case it is something important that my job needs to let me know but I'd
still like to find out what I might be doing wrong for future reference.
