Re: Add aware scripts not working in 7.10

Well, people on these lists often seem to transmit to each other solely
hotkey ways to operate nearly anything, with scarcely a reference to the
operations and functions of the program in question. At least that's what
I've notice, time and time again. In other words, it isn't from the menus
and their lists of related functions and commands that many people learn the
convenient hotkeys. Rather, that's the only way they instruct each other
about how to use a program or execute a task, in the first place.

Of course that's what a person should always do. I mean, you can't figure
out a hotkey without looking at the control to see if it has one, correct?
I've used shift numpad 5 a number of times (no pun intended) to see if a
button or edit box has a hotkey for it..

Fully agreed, Alicia. In fact, I wish that more blind computer users would
be encouraged to take the time and actually learn menus and controls of the
myriad applications that Jaws makes accessible, rather than resorting to
hotkeys up front, without even learning anything about how a given interface
is designed for general use. The problem resulting is a loss of context and
understanding of many a program, a kind of tunnel view of computer usage
that isn't ultimately as enabling or educational as would be helpful. But
in any case, I'm fine just so I can find the controls and understand what
I'm to do with them.

this fodesinged.

I agree! I think that if a program is made useable by writing scripts
whether you have to tab around to find a control or by a hotkey the luxury
is the ability to use the program. I myself do not mind tabbing around to
find a particular control because it gives you the ability to see what other
kinds of buttons there are. I often times do not use hot keys because if I
do not use them everyday I forget them so I do believe that if scripts make
a program that is unusable by JAWS users easier and possible to use then the
scripts are doing their job.
