Yardbird

I understood your message.

All I was saying is that maybe one of the windows drives looked similar to the Roxio driver and avg thought is was.

take care

Hi,

I guess I didn't make it clear: I do *not* have a copy of any Roxio program
on my system, and never did. The warning message was inappropriate in my
case, and when I quit the installation process and restarted it later, the
message didn't appear the second time. In other words, I don't have a
problem. But the message appeared erroneously and temporarily made me think
I did have a problem.

But definitely thanks for explaining that there's some information and other
stuff available online by going through the interface like that. I didn't
know. I thought I'd have had to go to grisoft.com and hunt around for the
same information and all that.

Thanks.

Well while in control center on the menu bar you open the info dropdown.

open online support.

There you will find the avg 7.5 upgrade.

There they explain how to upgrade your version of avg.

Also on this page they talk about the roxio drive issue and a link to
download the updated driver.

There is no notification about the new version of avg.

The only way is to occasionally go to there site and check.

Windows sometimes uses one applications drivers to run different hardware
systems so they will be compatible with lots of different hardware I was
told.

I don't really no if this is true though.

take care

thanks for the comment. But I guess I have to say again that I never had
the Roxio program on my machine, in any version! The install program was
simply mistaken.

But one thing you say may be helpful to others, because it's something
that
AVG apparently doesn't explain, unless there's notification on the Grisoft
site that I don't know about. If all you have to do is go there, find a
driver that Grisoft has helpfully put there for your convenience, and
install it to fix your Roxio program, rather than actually updating it
with
an entire new version, that sounds pretty helpful.

Anyway, the whole problem sounds kind of iffy, at this point. If we
weren't
all using the free edition, someone would be able to request a coherent
explanation that would remove the mystery about this whole thing.

Thanks again.

Hello

I am running roxio easy cd/dvd creator 6 with avg 7.5.

When I first installed avg 7.1 I received the message about a roxio
conflict, but went ahead anyway with the installation.

Afterwards I found the roxio cd driver update from the avg website and
installed that.

Again my version of avg has been running fine.

Best of luck to all

Robert

Hi Julie,
Thanks for the clarification. But I'm not sure there's any correlation
here
with my experience. First of all, when I tried running the installation
program a second time, without changing anything on my system,it didn't
come
up with that message again. Which suggests there's something just quirky
about the install program itself. There hadn't been any version of any
Roxio digital audio program on my system in the first place.

So, in your case, by contrast, you're saying that the install program
accurately detected an older version of Roxio Easy CD/DVD Creator, but
you
went ahead with the install, didn't bother to either delete the program
from
your system or update it, and nothing bad seems to be happening, so far?
Is
that it?

As for the fact that your computer is four years old and you haven't
changed
anything on it, I don't understand that. A computer is one thing, and
the
software on it is another thing. Most people install all sorts of
software
on their computer over the period during they own that particular
machine.
They upgrade this program, get this new other program, all sorts of
things.
It's just normal. a computer's not like a car, where very few people do
something radical like have a different engine installed every now and
then.
You mean you just never change anything about the software on a computer
until you buy a new one, years later, and then whatever has been
pre-installed on it, that becomes the software you run for the next four
years or so? You don't upgrade or update anything, whether it's Jaws or
Word or an antivirus program or anything? Maybe I misunderstood, and
this
isn't quite what you meant.

Anyway, thanks, and I hope the AVG/Roxio bug doesn't cause you any
problems
with either your virus protection or your digital audio projects.

It's an older version. I said he got the same message you did, so yes, it's an older version. Our PC is almost four years old, and we haven't updated the program, so that's why we got that message from AVG. -- Julie Morales Email & Windows/MSN Messenger: mercy421@xxxxxxxxxxx Skype: mercy0421 Please contact me if I may not recognize your contact info before adding me or I may not add you! Let me be clear about one thing, here: The message warns that the new
version of AVG Free Edition has problems not with just any version of
the
Roxio program, but with *older* versions, and this message doesn't
recommend
getting red of any Roxio program, but rather suggests updating the one
it
thinks you have.

So, with that said, is your reassurance below founded on your husband's
system having an older version of Easy CD/DVD Creator? Or does he have
a
current version of that program? This would seem to be a critical
difference in what one might make of that warning, before going ahead an
installing the new AVG in disregard of it, and feeling optimistic about
the
result..

Thank you.

Yes, I know. I'm the one who installed it on my husband's computer so I know what it says. I'm just saying he does have that program on his system but still installed it anyway and has no problem. I only mean there must be some documented problem somewhere with the program and AVG, but my husband doesn't have any problems with it, so I just said, even *if* you had it on your system, it should still be OK. -- Julie Morales Email & Windows/MSN Messenger: mercy421@xxxxxxxxxxx Skype: mercy0421 Please contact me if I may not recognize your contact info before adding me or I may not add you! You have to understand that the install program doesn't say "if you have
this program Roxio you might have a probLeM;" it says "we have
*detected*
that you have this program and it will be a problem." See? So I
appreciate
the reassurance, but need more specific response.

thank you very muCH.

I don't use AVG, but my husband does, and he got the same warning but installed it, anyway, and it's working fine on his end, too, so even if you did have it, there might be some documented problems or they wouldn't have put that warning in there, but it's working fine for him. Take care. -- Julie Morales Email & Windows/MSN Messenger: mercy421@xxxxxxxxxxx Skype: mercy0421 Please contact me if I may not recognize your contact info before adding me or I may not add you! Yardbird,
Just ignore that warning. I don't know why you're getting it since you
don't have Roxio anyway, but I got it with 2 different versions of Roxio
and
I still installed AVG and it has been working fine here.

Using the link Allen provided, I downloaded the update of AVG Free Edition. When I tried to install it, it warned me that there was an old version of Roxio EZ CD/DVD Creator on my system which would interfere with AVG.

I'm pretty sure I don't have the Roxio program. I would have to have
downloaded, installed it and, of course, paid for it, which ssurely
would've
made me remember. I do have the latest version of the Poikasoft program
Easy CD/DVD Extractor, but that isn't the same thing.

I can't find the Roxio program in my Start/Programs list, nor under
Ad/Remove software in Control Panel.

Can anyone advise me, please?

Thanks.
