Who ever told you that you have to manually update AVG was wrong. It
updates itself automatically. It has never failed me yet. While I agree
that Norton is secure, it slows down my computer a good deal. That's why I
went with AVG. Not a single virus yet.

Yes, I sure agree with you about Norton. I have Norton 2005 on this
computer. I just downloaded the AGV on my old computer which will be used
rarely so I didn't want to put out another $50 for Norton 2005.
You mentioned that I have to check for updates with the AGV? I didn't know
that, I was hoping like Norton it would be updated or let me know when
updates are available. Thanks!
