Well, for my part, and this is just one JAWS user's opinion, I had to think a bit about what you were saying, since I didn't notice any particular problems with JAWS and installation dialogs. I guess I've just gotten into the habit of using the JAWS cursor, so I don't see it as a big deal. I agree it may be disconcerting for a new user though. I've also never used the insert+b function, so I guess I don't know what I'm missing. For my part, I don't see these as big deals, and I think FS has higher priority issues to go after. That being said, these may not be difficult issues to resolve either. Also, even though I'm not a big user of Research It or some of the other new features that FS has implemented, I'm not going to discount them out of hand. Just because I'm not a big user of some of these features doesn't mean there aren't others who see the value in such features. I'm glad FS has implemented support for Office 2007 and Office 2010, 64-bit Windows, Windows Vista and Windows 7, iTunes, the virtual ribbon and so on. For my part, working better with applications like Lotus Notes, Sametime, Symphony, Open Office and others would be high on my list of priorities for FS. -- Christopher chaltain@xxxxxxxxx -----Original Message----- From: jawsscripts-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:jawsscripts-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of Geoff Chapman Sent: Tuesday, November 30, 2010 6:53 PM To: jawsscripts@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [jawsscripts] Re: why is jaws soooo poor at reading installation dialogs? cool, well I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks this then. last time I tried window eyes I gleaned it seemed heaps better at just reading dialogs as they popped up, than good old silentscreen jaws tended to be. it's such basic basic functionality too, and one of thee most important ones I reckon, for newby users, which are surely the ones FS would wanna nab to drag into the fold etc? newbys need to know what the screen is saying, and, I just reeeeally think that's something FS should work on. Both that, and that horrible insert+B, read box. command. Does anyone else find that just attrociously poor also? or does anyone have any backbround information on that script who may've ever looked into it, to see whether it could be majorly improved by someone? then offered up to fs on a platter? then the blinky world might benefit? ----- Original Message ----- From: "G-Dog" <lucifur@xxxxxxx> To: <jawsscripts@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Wednesday, December 01, 2010 7:33 AM Subject: [jawsscripts] Re: why is jaws soooo poor at reading installation dialogs? > Agreed! > I think it has something to do with reading highlighted text. > I'm thinking that text in many instal dialog boxes is not quote > highlighted > unquote. > Therefore, jfw doesn't pick up on it. > JFW instal dialog boxes itself reads everything just perfect! > ON the other hand, Adobe flash player update installers is brutal!
