Thanks David and Geoff.
I will chew this over when I get some time and post any new questions that I
have.
Best,
Alice

Also, setting that =1 to a 0 at the end of any rgb foreGround and BackGround
colors under the [highlightColors] option, turns them off from functioning, but
leaves them in there. handy for testing.
whereas the =1 option, turns them back on again.
I have oft wished that this on/off custom highlights feature, present as a
manual edit in the jcf file, was offered to the general user as a normative
spaceBar togglable option in the main dialog handling highlight colors, but,
sadly, for some reason, it's not.
another thing to write to eric about one day.

Hi Alice:
I found some help text on this in the Custom Highlights options in the
configuration manager.

After looking at this I did some experimenting from the desktop and
then compared values applied to the Windows OS.JCF file. I am using
xp Pro so I don't know what configuration applies for vista.

On the desktop I set the highlighted colors to white on Midnight blue.

I will paste below the results that were saved to the file when I
changed the setting from windows highlights only and then changed to
custom highlights only and then the last time when I switched to both
windows and custom highlights.

It seems to me that you should be able to switch to custom highlights
only for the desktop and
use windows highlights for your default configuration.

If necessary you should be able to use the SetJcfConfiguration function
with the
OPT_USE_CUSTOM_HIGHLIGHT
OPT_USE_WINDOWS_HIGHLIGHT
options if you should need to do this from a script.

Here is what Jaws saved to the jcf file for each of the settings
outlined below.

: windows highlights only
[Options]
UseCustomHighlight=1
[Highlight Colors]
255255255/010036106=1

; custom colors only
[Options]
UseCustomHighlight=2
[Highlight Colors]
255255255/010036106=1

:windows and custom colors

[Highlight Colors]
255255255/010036106=1

Yeah, unfortunately I can't make that decision for our agency standard
configurations.
Can anyone help me with the original question?
