What about the position on screen of a certain text character?
Do you know if it is possible to find it?

Snowman,
I don't think so. These apps are based on the new UI which use the
managed layer to display screen elements. The "managed layer", the .NET
classes makes possible to get the colors of unique screen pixels.
Currently JAWS Script language lacks the possiblility to use .NET
assemglyies natively. Or somebody should write a COM dll which wraps
that functionality of .NET managed classes...

I think it does mean that, for this new class of application. But, not__________
yet,
for all apps.
But, I get the sense that pixel addressing, and the ability to detect
individual pixel color is a hook we will soon lose. I agree, that is
very
regrettable.
It has been very handy, and offten made the difference between usable,
and
useless.

Does that mean that we won't be able to find the screen coordinates of
some
text chars displayed in an application?
Because if this is the case, it means that programming independently by
the
blind won't be possible anymore for this kind of applications because we
won't be able to arrange the forms elements and check their position.

Pete, the way I read that, those applications do not support the off
screen
model, so no, we can't see the screen. So, the physical layout is no
longer available to us.
That seems to be becoming more and more the case, as we are restricted
to
object browsing.
Good times.

Subject: [jawsscripts] Still confused about JAWS Scan Cursor
The JAWS help for the JAWS Scan Cursor says:
"For example, if you open the Calculator or Windows Store in JAWS 2020
and
press NUM PAD MINUS, you will now hear JAWS announce "JAWS Scan Cursor"
as
these are apps that do not support the OSM. You can then use the ARROW
keys
like you always have done to move by character, word, line, as well as
INSERT+UP ARROW to read the current line, or PAGE UP, PAGE DOWN, HOME,
and
END. The mouse pointer will also continue to follow as it always has.
The
only difference is that the cursor does not move from top to bottom or
left
to right. Instead, it moves by element the way the developer laid out
the
app."
Does this mean that there is no longer a way for the JAWS user to see
text
on the screen in the manner that it is laid out on the screen if the
JAWS
Scan Cursor is activated by an application? I am confused.
Thanks.
