So, a vb6 or similarly opaque toolset was used for the target application?
If the scrolling list will take focus then perhaps arrow or page keys will
work to scroll the list. Usually i was still able to find a vertical scroll
bar MSAA objects and find page up and page down MSAA buttons within the
scroll bar.
I seem to remember scroll wheel functions or methods in one screen reader
though i have never used them.

Being able to use the scroll wheel means I don't have to be accurate in
positioning the mouse as the scroll bar is a lot smaller than standard size!
