[jaws-uk] finding out about background programmes

Howdy
Just wondering if any of you good people would know how to find out about all
the superfluous programmes which might be running in the background whilst I'm
working. Someone told me this might account for any slow running of my
computer. Do you think it might? Any idea how to find out what's there doing
nothing?
