Yes, 256 is way to low these days, 512 is more or less bare minimum with XP.
You would need to add some extra RAM for the PC, unless you are quite
experienced I would suggest consulting someone locally for fitting extra RAM.

Hi Barbara. Do you have a My Computer icon on your desktop? if so, press
Windows D to get to the desktop and m until you get to My Computer. Press
alt enter and you will bring up a property sheet for My computer. You can
also get to this by going to Control Pannel and selecting system.

You should be on the general tab in this multitab dialog box which is what
you want. You will probably want to read this with the JAWS cursor so press
Insert with Dash (numpad top right) to route JAWS cursor to PC and use the
arrow keys to read the dialog box.

Alternatively in this dialog box you can use insert control w to
"virtualise" the contents of the dialog box. use control a to select the
resulting text and control c to copy it to the clipboard. You can then
paste it into an email to the list if you require further help. If you
choose this method, good luck with the keystroke. it is not the easiest to
  acomplish!

  Regards

  Graham

Thanks for all the responses to my question about JAWS running slowly when
  several programs are opened together.

From comments on this list I gather it might be because the RAM memory isn't
large enough? Someone described how to check this the other day but I
deleted the message by mistake, could someone repeat the instructions
  please?

  Thanks.
