Hi Joan, I was surprised to hear about this problem, because for me, so far, 6.10 seems to be a good release. There are several problems that had cropped up in 6.0, which seem to have disappeared, and I haven't yet found any new ones. I'm usually fairly sceptical about new releases of JAWS, so was pleasantly surprised by this one. It may be worth re-installing version 6.10, but not making this your default version. This way you could try it out, and if you get the same problems, reporting them to support@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx, who seem to be a lot more on-the-ball than they used to be. If you have several versions of JAWS installed you can choose which one comes up when you restart the computer, by starting that version of JAWS from the desktop and then going into options->basics, and checking the 'automatically start JAWS' box for that version. Don't try this if you're not confident about any of the steps involved. I did uninstall Jaws 6.1 and the original version, 6.0, is working beautifully. I therefore feel the problem was with the new version. Why I don't know. I had already done a defrag, checked for spyware and run my virus checker and all proved fine. I really was horrified at the problems that were thrown up last night. Dear knows what caused them. I even wondered if I had installed the wrong version of 6.1 but I had checked thoroughly to make sure I was downloading the one for Windows XP. All's well that ends well, I suppose, but I was frazzled by the end of the evening! Best wishes, Joan. ----- Original Message ----- From: tim.pennick@xxxxxx To: jaws-uk@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Friday, April 15, 2005 10:32 AM Subject: [jaws-uk] Re: Problems with Jaws 6.1 Joan, I could be wrong, but this doesn't sound like a JAWS problem to me. You could prove whether its a problem with this particular version of JAWS by reverting to your last version. All you need to do is locate the last version of JAWS you installed, by going to your desktop and hitting the letter J a few times till JAWS says the last version you installed, then hit insert-f4 to close your currently running version of JAWS, return to the desktop with windows-M, and hit enter which should open the old version of JAWS. Your problem sounds more like a virus to me. Using Windows XP. All seemed ok till I started to play all-in-play poker when I couldn't get it to work properly. Tried to bring up configuration manager and Jaws got itself all confused, wouldn't read, and then didn't do anything. Wouldn't get out of it either and I couldn't close down all in play. Eventually used windows key and m to try to get to desktop, when it kept saying Control Windows M. This type of thing kept happening and I tried start menu and u, but it only decided to shut down when I held in the computer switch, though only for a second when it began to shut down naturally. Have spent the evening fighting with this and tried to uninstall 6.1 but could only go to control panel. It only gave me the option of repair or cancel when I wanted to uninstall so I repaired it but the same things happen. It's horrendous really. How can I get rid of 6.1? Any help would be gratefully received! Joan.
