[jaws-uk] Re: More questions on skype

I've tried, copying the file name to the clipboard and pasting so as to make sure they were no mistake, the file couldn't be found. I did a search for the file using the same method, got the message: there is no result to display.

Now what?
How could that important file have been removed from my system and can I put it back without having to re-install Windows? I've noone here with eyes good enough to help and I don't feel confident enough to do this by myself. At the moment, I can still use the machine and I need it as it has my diary and all my contacts and important details on it, I use it to keep on eye on my bank account and to keep in touch with my friends. If I mess it up, all that would be gone perhaps for a long time. so, if a simple solution can't be found I'll have to live without voice chat. No big deal really when you think about it...
It would have been nice but... can't have everything in life.

Thanks for your help anyway.
Much appreciated.

Marie

Hi Marie,

Try using the full path which, assuming that your boot drive is c: should
be:
c:\windows\system32\sndvol32.exe

I tried 3 times to run smdvol32 as you describe, everytime I got the
following message: windows cannot find sndvol32.
What next?

I promise to listen carefully even if you say it only once.

you should be able to regulate your sound volume just using windows native
volume control.
Do the following:

1. hold down your windows logo kkey while typing the letter "r" (winkey+r)
to open the run dialog.

2. type

sndvol32

and hit enter

3. This should bring up the windows volume control applet on the playback
side. adjust your playback volume here. (The overall system volume and
wave volume are relevant). Should a level for microphone show up here,
make sure the "mute" checkbox for it is checked or you might get
feedback.)

if you also need to adjust your ic's recording volume, hit your "alt" key
to go into the menu, enter on "properties' and in the properties dialog
tab to the radio buttons that let you select whether to adjust your volume
for playback or recording and set it to "recording" and hit enter. This
opens the recording side of your volume control where you can set the
recording volume of your mic.

Others might differ from this, but I usually do not even install the
software that comes for my audigy 2 card but just the drivers when I
install or upgrade drivers for my card.

Hi Marie,

Chat, in Skype, is a means of messaging using text while call is
communication using sound i.e. speech.

Once you select a contact from the list, pressing the applications key
will
give you a context menu with other options including the ability to send
a
file to the contact, viewing the contact's profile and blocking the
contact.

There are other options which require that you have other Skype services
active, but most of these you need Skype credit to use. Skype credit
works
a bit like pay-as-you-go mobile phones in that you place credit with
Skype
then use it up.

Examples of these services are making calls to landline phones or mobile
phones, sending text messages to mobile phones etc.

Skype is presented as a set of tabs which you can navigate using
keystrokes
provided by the Jaws scripts.

You can find an overview of the keystrokes by pressing JawsKey+h.

I've downloaded the executable file as advised and installed it making
sure
all the scripts were compiled as recommended before pressing the finish
button.
However, the problems I encountered trying to add contacts are still
there.
I type the email address of a friend and press the find button, sometimes
the search is started but not always and I don't get any result.

More puzzling now... I've run the test call many times, I get the service
ok, but I do not hear my message played back to me as I should.
I know my mike works because I can hear my breath in my headphones as I
type. The problem must lie in the playback volume but I don't know where
to
find this to alter its settings.
I use an audigy 2 soundcard, what should I look for and where? navigating
in
the creative submenus is a nightmare but if pointed to the right
direction,
I might be able to crack that one.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Marie

P.S. What's the difference between chat and call? probably quite obvious
to
you all but I'll like it clarified for a skype user. Thanks.
