Norman, 

I had a jaws related problem like you are describing with word 2003. It kept
on opening extra docs. Sods law, I can't remember the fix except, check that
you have the latest possible jaws version.

Thanks for this.  I think I have done all this but I will check.  I have
even tried reinstalling Word.  I am using Word 2003 I think.
