Also make sure that the column widths are sufficiently wide as follows:
Select all (control plus a)
Format (alt plus o)
Columns (c)
Autoformat (a)

Hi Catherine,

Normally Jaws will speak the contents of a block of merged cells in just the
same way as it would for a single cell. If you only get a little spoken
when you go onto this merged block, it is likely that there is only the
contents that you hear spoken.

As Jim says, you can read the contents by using F2, which is basically
putting you in an editing mode, or you can read the formula (if there is
one) by pressing Control+F2.

If a block of cells have been merged when there is data in cells throughout
the block, then the data in all the cells apart from the cell at the top
left of the block will be permanently deleted. You should be pretty
confident that the only contents that are in the merged area are the items
spoken by Jaws.

You could also try unmerging the cells and any content that was in the
merged area will end up in the top left cell of the merged block.

Jamie

Subject: [jaws-uk] Merged cells in Excel

Hi,

I'm looking at a spreadsheet someone else created in Excel 2003 using
JAWS 10. There are a lot of merged cells and I have the feeling I am
missing something. Is there any particular way to deal with merged
cells? JAWS just reads a small amount of content and says a huge
amount of cells are merged, and I'm not sure how to get at the rest of
the content in those cells.
