Forgot to say that I have just tried it with the site you mentioned and it
worked. I use J12 and IE8 on an XP machine but it should not make any
different. The pass key through command has been used in Jaws since earlier
versions.

BTW, the numbers 1 to 6 in Jaws are used to navigate to the corresponding
heading levels on webpages.

Cheers,
Amro

Hi Jonathan, get them to press Insert+3 before they press any of the numbers
on the number row. That is called Pass Key Through function in Jaws.

Here's what the help files say:

  "Pass Key Through (INSERT+3)

After this command is pressed, the next command is ignored by JAWS and is
passed directly to the active application. This is very useful if a JAWS command
  conflicts with an application command."

They have to press Insert 3 every time they want to pass a command to the
active application though.

  HTH,
  Amro

I'm a sighted users, using Jaws 12 trying to help someone, but I
gather keystrokes have changed since 10, and I'm trying to help
    someone overcome a problem.

A Jaws 10 on XP user is having a problem with this page:
    http://eat-wolverhampton.talking-newspapers.co.uk/

He is saying that the number key shortcuts don't work. ie, he should
be able to press 2 and hear the first new track, press 5 to pause, 6
    to skip etc etc.

But none of it works. I'm not at his location, and he says he's not
computer literate enough to be able to tell me exactly which version
of IE he is using, and it's no good asking things like "is javascript
    on".

All he can tell me is that his keyboard doesn't have a numeric keypad.
Not that this page requires numeric keypad input.

All I can think of is that his Jaws is somehow configured to not pass
through keyboard input to the page. I know there's a forms mode which
might work, and I thought it was activated by pressing ENTER, but I
    can't be sure.

I know other users are using it with Jaws 11 without problems, and are
a little more, how shall I put it, technically computer minded.
It's also working fine for me on Jaws 12 and Windows 7, but that's
quite a different setup from Jaws 10 on Windows XP and an unknown
    version of IE.
BTW, I know keyboard actions work on all versions of IE, so it can't
    be that either.
And I also know he can navigate and tab around the page without
problems and access other playlists etc, so the page must be being
generated OK for that to happen.

I want to try and get the right answer and not confuse him any more,
so if anyone has any suggestions, they'd be gratefully received!
