You can get older versions of Firefox from www.filehippo.com. I downloaded
an older version from there and just installed it over version 5 without any
problems. When you go to the site, search for Firefox and press ENTER on the
link. on the page that then appears, do a search for "versions" and you
should land on a list of older versions which you can download.

Hi Tiddy,

Nothing there, the only 2 choices are Mozilla Firefox and
Mozilla Firefox (safe mode).

When I click on the first choice I get taken to ver5. I
don't want to chance my luck with Safe Mode.

Can you find Firefox 5 in the start menu/all programs list?
If so, there
may be a removal option there.

Doris,

I looked under Mozilla but only version 3.6 is in the
Add/Remove Programmes in Control Panel so I don't know
where to look next.

firefox installs as mozilla Firefox . So look under "M" and
not "f".

I personally use Revo Uninstaller as that cleans up pretty
thoroughly
after an uninstall. (Some programs are notorious for leaving
behind
all kinds of junk.) However, Revo Uninstaller draws on the
same
information to list the programs installed as windows'
native
add/Remove Programs applet.

you may want to try going to

www.nvda-prject.org

and grab the latest copy of nvda and see if that works for
you with
firefox as an alternative. nvda is not jaws but is getting
better and
is a good backup or resource to use with programs that might
not work
so well with jaws.
