Hi Jim.

In my experience of completing application forms, companies have been happy to let you provide the information required in the form as a separate document. This approach does have its difficulties as making sure that such documents are well laid out can take time. Often the beginning of such forms are general details such as your address, date of birth and any other personal details required as well as employment history. This could be filled in over the phone but the later part of the form where you give information about how you meet the person specification is something that I would rather write at my leisure so for me, filling in the form in a separate document is always preferable.

Cheers

Graham

"Do you know anything about Acrobat Writer as mentioned in other
messages?"

The companion authoring program is relatively expensive, and I wouldn't
normally advise anyone to purchase this unless one of their full tme
occupations was creating these things. I would get in touch with the
personel department and see if they may be willing to accommodate
another way of doing things. Perhaps filling the form out over the
phone with you would be a good strategy.

Tristram,

To be fair to the company they require the form to be filled in via
handwriting but will accept forms in other formats. However, if they
are a
company that use PDF extensively then I could face problems if I do get
the
job. Do you know anything about Acrobat Writer as mentioned in other
messages?

Jim

"A pdf file is a protected document normally, you can't edit it."

Actually that isn't strictly true, there are technicl provisions within
the format for you to fill out a PDF form, but it depends on the
document. Under the right circumstances you can fill out a PDF form
using JAWs and Adobe Reader.

However, I have not seen many of these and one that did encounter in the
wild and serious problems which meant that even though you could
theoretically fill it out it didn't really work, this was more down to
the forms product rather than the inate ability to fill it out.

The vast majority of PDF forms are designed to be printed out and filled
out by hand as far as I know.

Jim,

A pdf file is a protected document normally, you can't edit it.

I can't understand why it's being provided as an application form for a
post, but contact the source and tell them your problem. Umm, at least I

think I'm right here....

Cheers, Robin

Hi listers,

Is there a way of completing application forms on PDF documents. I've

tried
converting them to text files but the layout usually goes haywire.
This
is
making life very difficult when trying to apply for jobs and I can't
even
get past the first hurdle of the application form.

Jim Williams
