Hi,
When you go into the Defragmenting program you are given the option to
"Analyse" the system first. This takes a minute or two. You then have an
option to "View a Report" and at the top of this report it will recommend
whether you need to defragment the system or not along with lots of other
information.

The point is that clicking the defragmenting button is only the first stage.
I use Windows XP: I don't know how different Windows 98 would be.

Regards

David

hi,

I have been most fortunate as my computer has not slowed down in the
slightest,
however as it is an old system being jaws 4.5 with windows 98, and when I
compare it
with a more up to date versions of these programs it sure is a old man.
plus to make
it worse i am only on dial up so as you can imagine it is very slow on the
inter net.

i'm afraid i am a creature of habit and don't like change and i believe that
if it's
working don't rock the boat.

susan.

SusanI think Dorothy was particularly unlucky, and if your machine is
sstill working OK, then don't bother. But if it seems to be slowing
down enough to annoy you, give it a go. I only tend to do it about
twice a year, probably.
