Ariane, You do not need to wait for your instructer to create a hotkey for your volume control. 1. Navigate to the icon of the volume control. This would probably be in programs>accessories>entertainment. 2. Right click that icon by saying "right click" or by hitting the right windows key. 3. Tab or use the "next control" command to navigate the control that says something like "short cut key". 4. Hit the key combination of choice. I hit ctrl+alt+l. 5. Tab or use the "next control" or "move forward x controls" commands to the "ok" button. 6. Activate that button. Note: It is going to be difficult reading the key combination you have assigned to the volume control from within the short cut key combobox since your up arrow key that you hit to read the line may be trapped as the next hotkey so just hit the key combination of choice and see if it works. You could always use the "speak dialog box" command to review the complete dialog box. Let us know what happens. I'm waiting for someone to see if they can find it. I have no idea how to create a hotkey for a volume control, I will try to contact my instructor who is presently on vacation. Besides multi-media keyboards, sometimes the monitor has mute buttons as well, so I would see if anything is accidentally hitting either of those. Otherwise I get around waiting for sighted assistance by making a hot key which goes directly into volume control. That way all you have to know is to push the keystroke you assign, and tab twice, followed by space to uncheck it. all the other checkboxes are every third push of tab. Not just jaws speaking, but all sound including chimes etc. even when the computer is rebooted, which does not resolve the problem. I have had to ask someone fully sighted to locate an icon on my taskbar to un mute the sound with a mouse. Big question-is there a combination of key strokes that I accidentally used by mistake to mute the sound? I have been using JSay6 and Dragon (2008 releases) and this is happened only a few times in a year or more but lately three times in two weeks. I rarely use the control keys or tab keys because I am clumsy using them, and mostly use voice commands but now I am fearful of touching the keyboard and accidentally shutting off the sound again. Has this happened to anyone else?
