Well, for one I couldn't report the problems I was having as a hard drive failure prevented the POST from completing and resulted in a non-working Iyo. All is fixed now, thanks to the prompt action of CJE. Thankfully it turned out not to be the Boot drive which was dead, as I thought. This does beg a question: why does a machine which can run with just the modules in ROM need to have (a) hard drive(s) which work(s)? Wouldn't it be better if the machine started with an appropriate error message if it finds the configured drive(s) inaccessible? The equivalent of an automatic shift+boot if you like. In my case I had two drives (4 & 5) and 5's bearing failed (I think). There was nothing wrong with 4 so why didn't the machine start with that and just tell me 5 was broken? I know it sort of does that if both drives spin up properly because drive 5 had actually failed (with a head crash?) some time ago and didn't appear on the iconbar and I just never got round to removing it. Forgot about it, actually. I had no choice but to replace it now! As it was seven years old I am not surprised. (Delighted to find, by the way, that there was nothing like the dirt inside this Iyo than there was in PC towers I took apart to replace GFX cards. I never knew: more fans = more dirt inside. They're obviously designed to suck dirt in and blow only air out! Apart from heating the room there is another use for a PC's PSU exhaust: I attach a cardboard tube with a muslin cover and dry herbs in it. Makes the office smell nice too. :-) And yes - before I get told off - I do monitor the thing's temperatures when I do that and it seems to make no difference.) -- Tim Hill Ba ................................................... tjrh.eu --- To alter your preferences or leave the group, visit //www.freelists.org/list/iyonix-support Other info via //www.freelists.org/webpage/iyonix-support List-related queries to iyonix-support-moderators@xxxxxxxxxxxxx
