Unset "Unblank on screen writes" by clicking on Default and Set
otherwise the screen savers will not work when you press Try.

I don't know why DPMS (black screen) doesn't work but you could try
connecting the Iyonix video out directly to the monitor to eliminate
the KVM switch.

You are unlikely to wear it out - screen saving was important on the
old CRT type monitors where the electron beam would burn the phosphor
coating that occurred when a still image is displayed for hours on
end.
