The latest version of VMWare Workstation is 3.1.1 build 1790.

3x512MB = 1.5GB; more than enough for a VMWare Workstation host.
VMWare Workstation is limited to 1GB RAM; it simply won't use more than that
for VM's.
This leaves the rest for system memory; again at 512MB, more than enough.

VMWare ESX Server will use 4GB RAM and GSX Server doesn't seem to have any
memory limits.
According to this page:
http://www.vmware.com/products/desktop/ws_specs.html, your machine should be
beefy enough for 5 servers.
How much memory are you allocating to each VServer?
5 Virtual W2K servers at 128MB each creates a total of 640MB for the VM's,
well within the VMWare Workstation memory limits and leaves plenty for
VM-based ISA servers.

Trying to go beyond 128MB for each server is getting close to the limits of
VMWare Workstation.

Was working until recently with a motherboard jetboard 866As ultra with
3 x 512 DDR. Working fine excepted that ram was a little bit short
specially for the lab of tom regarding L2TP and IPsec which was
published recently on ISASERVER.ORG. (I am using VMWARE since nearly
three years).

So I decided to upgrade

1 - my VMWARE is version 3.0.0.14
2 - start vmware then NEW virtual machine and so on
i use msdn universal's cd regarding 2k servers + sp2
everything seems fine then suddenly but not always there is a
message from XP to inform of a fatal error regarding VMWARE and
asking if we want to send the report to ms
we loose the virtual machine

sometimes XP reboots without any reason

3 - the host has 2 Go DDR ram

point is that the box has been tested with high charge without VMWARE
and working fine with a debit on disks of 40 mo/s

I tested other cards before without success especially a nice
motherboard from MSI which never supported my RAM , only 2 x 500 Mo.

So I ask only upon a config which works with at least 2 giga ddr and
vmware !!!!!

Thanks for your interest

I'm also using VMWare (yes, Tom turned me on to it).

Q1 - What version are you running?
Q2 - Exactly how have you defined the virtual machines?
Q3 - how much memory does the host have?

hello everyone

this is a little bit out of topic but to be able to implement the labs
suggested by tom using vmware we need high confif machines

the lab for l2tp and ipsec requests 5 adv2000 servers !

has anyone a good experience and can provide us with a hard config
running
well

i just install a mothercard asus A7M266D BI PRO ATHLON 1.7 MHZ and raid
0
with adaptec card

unfortunately i am not sure VMWARE supports this config

at anytime the machine reboots (XP PRO is running as OS)

thanks for your experiences so as tu buy the rights components
