Thanks for looking for me! :)
The Outlook issue is related to relay. I didn't discuss authenticating
relays for external users, so I just made the observation that when
using inbound relay to your remote domains, you want to be to use it for
open relay for your legit users.
OK, I think there was a wish and a rumor that the STARTTLS would be
fixed with FP1. Its fixed in ISA Server 2004, but never got fixed with
ISA Server 2000.
POP3 works great! Its not related to the relay issue.

What it says, on page 416, is that if you have an external user
connecting to a published SMTP server, he/she won't be able to send mail
to outside addresses (but that it will hopefully be fixed). So if
someone is using POP, will he/she be affected, too?
Also on page 416, you mention that the SMTP application filter "does not
support the STARTTLS command" (used when SMTP clients negotiate an SSL
connection to the SMTP server), and that it will also hopefully be fixed
soon.

I don't recall what I said about Outlook, I'll have to check on that. I
think it was the SMTP AUTH, not STARTTLS, that I talked about being
fixed.

If I may, I'd like to ask a follow-up question. In "ISA Server and
Beyond" you mention a couple of problems with the SMTP Message Screener.
One you mentioned was about being unable to send messages to outside
addresses via, say, Outlook Express. The other is about it not
supporting the STARTTLS command. You say both of these may be fixed by
the time the book came out. Can you tell me if these issues have been
addressed?

Hi Rob,
That's right. But you can install the Message Screener on the ISA
firewall, a off-box SMTP relay, or on the Exchange Server itself.
