        Hi Tom,

I always refer to a DMZ as a step inward from the perimeter
network. In a single-host firewall I refer to the permiter as the
network that the external interface is connected to and the DMZ as the
network the third, non-internal, interface is connected to. In a
dual-host firewall (or back-to-back) the perimeter network would be the
network attached to the external interface of the external firewall host
and the DMZ would be either the network between the two firewall hosts
or the network attached to a third interface on the external host.
Ideally there would be a level of separation beyond general routing
between the perimeter and the DMZ so in my mind they really aren't the
same or interchangeable, as I define them.

                Hey guys,

What would be your definition of a DMZ?

What would be your definition of a perimeter network?

I've used them somewhat interchangably. Do you think
that's accurate or do the terms have more specific definitions in your
eyes?

                Thanks!
                Tom
