Hi Joseph,

Looks good. Make sure the SMTP relay can correctly resolve the name :-)

Hi Thomas,
Meaning that :
ISA = ISASERVER NAME
USERNAME = USER
DOMAIN = ISASERVER NAME OR IIS NAME?
PASSWORD = PASSWORD?
Because, being tired, I think I've tried things 3 times.
Thank you,

Joseph

Hi Joseph,

Is it like this:

ISA
|
|
SMTP Relay
|
|
ISA
|
|
Exchange

If so, the SMTP relay needs to use the name of the front-end ISA in the
SMTPcred tool when configurating the user account.

Tom

Hi Joseph,

Are these Windows 2000 or Win2003 machines? The DCOM config is different
on each one.

Also, make sure you entered the machine name for the domain name in the
smtpcred tool.

Hi Thomas,

Yup, still up!

DCOM is giving some erros that state unable to communicate with the isa
server with any of the configured protocols. MSGID 10009. Getting
closer
Could it be that the the smtpcred.exe tool is looking for a domain and
my
machines are in the dmz as part of the workgroup? Is there a dcom doc
that
talks about this some place?

Thank you,

Joseph

Hi Joseph,

OK, so the IIS SMTP service on the DMZ is configure to use the message
screener on the front-end firewall, right?

Do you see a resource allocation error on the front-end firewall?
Can you get things working by disabling and re-enabling the SMTP Server
Publishing Rule on the front-end ISA firewall?
Do you see any SMTP errors on the IIS machine? Or maybe some DCOM
related errors?

Thanks!
Tom

Hi Thomas,

Yup, late/early! I have some time on my hands and really want to get my
log
stuff out and about for folks to use
so, I've been really putting in the time again :) Before a next gig
starts.
I was out of town for over a year and worked very little on log stuff or
site for that period of time. Client came first before I had a chance to
play!

Yes, I'm using a server publishing rule. I did have it set to use an
IIS
relay in my DMZ and then with the message screener pointing back to my
internal isa ext nic card. But, the rules were still stoping on the ISA
front end firewall.

I just checked under services and I don't have an SMTP server running
just
the application filter. It was working the other day at least to my iis
relay box but not to my exchange behind second firewall. Then I added
the
message screener on the iis box and that seem to have stopped
everything.
Been racking my brains the past 2 days.

Bums, me out I should have been backing up for each change :(, I made
while
being tired.

Thanks for the Help! I really do appreciate it!

Joseph

Hi Joseph,

Seems more early than late to me :-)

Are you using an SMTP server publishing rule? Are you using the
front-end ISA firewall as an incoming SMTP relay? If not, make sure that
the SMTP service on the front-end ISA firewall is uninstalled.

Tom

Hi All,

I don't know what the hell I turned off, but all incoming SMTP mail
keeps
getting blocked at least that's what it says in the packet filter log.
I
can see incoming ports trying to connect to 25 but they say blocked.
I deleted all rules for smtp, client sets for my smtp servers,
everything
and rebooted.
Then I added them back one at a time. Still shows blocked.

Does anyone know if the ISA 2000 cache or meta data can become corrupt
and
could be the cause of this?

Tis, late for me 4:18 PAC.

Thank you,
Joseph
