Exchange not able to deliver message

Guys I need your help with this one -
Every now and then I cannot send a mail (the bigger the more likely) -
it stays in the outbound queue forever but actally gets delivered. I
sent an offer to a customer which was delivered more than 40 times - no
a good publicity is it :) I tracked it down to an exchange error saying
that the network connection was "bad" or interrupted or whatever. Now
since my ISA here is running on a very lame server, I suspect that it
might have something to do with the machine not being able to serve the
load. I haven't had any other problems with data transfer though.
Any, preferrably good, ideas?
