Yeah, but hell, his work is so fucking ubiquitous now, you know? I mean, JCSS to Lion King!

Don't get me wrong-- he's an amazing lyricist-- but I think Andrew Lloyd-Webber really pulled him through the rough times with his compositions.... Kinda like Bernie Taupin with Elton John... Not to deride the guy, but if you are writing lyrics for Super Star, you just can't throw out anachronisms like Caiaphas saying "We'll pay you in silver, cash on the nail" in "Damned for all time." Everyone with half a brain knows that "cash on the nail" was derived from an idiom sourced from the Port of Bristol in 1552... It's the loquacious nature of his lyric that sometimes fucks him up and takes away from the true meaning. Well, to me anyway... But hey, I'm just a dumb guy, not some self-proclaimed Philomath. :-p
