IHi flor

I was going to say that I also liked Audrey's idea of calling up the
chat shows to voice our feelings about this issue. Using an independent
radio station like Newstalk 106FM sounds a good idea. Getting Eamonn
dunphy to do somehting for us - now thats a deadly idea!

What do the rest of ye think?

Hi Suzanne,

The programme that is now called "Audioscope" (whatever it was called in
the past), has been goiing out for more than thirty years. That was
the point that was being made. There are Audioscope listeners who
wouldn't have known about the name "Listen And See".

On the topic of the future, I like Stuart's idea about asking the SBC or
independent radio to facilitate a pprogramme for us. (I look forward to
the national airing of 106 FM Talk Radio; and realised that RTE Radio 1
would have to make changes because of it.) Perhaps Eamonn Dunphy, in
his new slot on RTE Radio 1, could do something for us, as he is a
somewhat loud supporter of public service broadcasting!!

after 30 years

        Hi All

I saw the following article in today's Irish Independent website
regarding Audioscope being scrapped. Note that the Irish independent was
slightly incorrect in saying that Audioscope has been on air for over 30
years but in reality it was known as Listen & See for a long time. What
do you all reckon about this?

RTE to scrap radio show for blind after 30 years

RTE has confirmed that its long-running radio programme dedicated to
blind people is to be scrapped as part of the revamped Radio One autumn
schedule.

Audioscope, which goes out on Wednesday nights, has been on the air for
more than 30 years, and the decision to bring it to an end has been
criticised by the National Council for the Blind of Ireland.

"Not only does it provide news and information of specific interest to
people who are blind or vision impaired, but it also increases awareness
of sight loss among the wider population," chief executive Des Kenny
said.

He urged the station to reconsider the move, which is the latest in a
number of changes by new Radio One boss Ana Leddy, including the axing
of Rattlebag and John Kelly's Mystery Train. "The numbers of people who
are blind or vision impaired is increasing annually," Mr Kenny said.
"With an ageing population and increasing numbers of people living with
diabetes and other health issues, the need for RTE to continue
broadcasting Audioscope is greater than ever."
