Try Ubuntu 6.06 LTS, Dapper Drake. Everything will work in a fly! If its
laptop, then one of the solution is "Dapper Drake" :D
(Personal experience, I have a *designed for windows* Lenovo N100. Only
Ubtuntu Dapper Drake worked perfectly amongst the common GNU/Linux
distros :) )
Ubuntu does work out of the box, but be sure to have both the "live" and
the "alternate" ISOs handy.
There has been many a cases where the "live" CD installer has problems
and crashes towards the end of installation process.
The "alternate" CD works like a charm though, and you have an option of
choosing the classic Debian like text installer.
PS. avoid using your "corporate" mail id for mailing lists.
