If you are facing this problem too often than not, try this...
Assumptions :--
You are having a dual OS { with LINUX one of them, and GRUB/LILO as
the boot loader } and any Windows OS as the other.
To Do :--
(1) Backup your MBR using the utilities like MBRWiz or MBRUtil from
your Windows/LINUX OS, while you're Dual OS booting is successful with
GRUB/LILO. Save the MBR you backed up to some safe location, where your
reinstallation will not affect it.
(2) Re-install your Windows OS. { Yea, it sure wipes out GRUB/LILO }
(3) Restore from the Backed-up MBR.
Atleast it works for me.
