Because they are interested to know and contribute? I at least know one
person who came in without any idea about FOSS, went up to delivering a
lot of talks on FOSS and now works as a Python programmer in the city

That is the whole trouble, people like you and others work for a short time
for 10-12 K per month and then go off to earn lakhs ;-) I know of only two
people who willingly worked for lesser pay because of their dedication to
FOSS. And even they could not sustain.
