Nice to hear that, FOSSConf finished successfully. But what I felt bad is, I
could not attend this geat event this time. I congrats all the Linux and
Open Source enthusiasts. I hope the Open Source is moving ahead.
a.Powerpoint and Windows based slide show from NRCFOSS.
I really disappointed this word from Raman. The motivation of FOSSConf is
not to concentrate like this. I dont know, why you mentioned this issue in
the first. Want to create a big issue? or do you feel this slide hurt you
more?. FYI, The author of this topic, Geetha joined with NRCFOSS recently.
She is not an regular employee of NRCFOSS, as of now and i thing this is the
first talk for her, after she joined with NRCFOSS. None of the regular
NRCFOSS employee are familar with her; Even she did not took a talk for
local people too. I dont like to insist here like, she is correct. Let her
to learn it from her mistake and avoid in future. Otherwise, we will
discourage a beginner/resource person on Ruby from this community. And there
is no use we are discussing about it here, instead of inform it to her. Any
body send a mail to her reg this issue?.
I have few queries here. Suppose a person is interested in a open source
topic, say example Python. She/he dont bother about whether she/he is going
to work in Linux or Windows. Will this open source world accept her/his
work?. Or you will denied?. This is wrong?.
If you say, ya she/he is wrong, then why this open source world allowed to
work all our open source tools in Windows platform like GIMP, Open
Office,.etc?.
And you decided that this is [(a)] big -ve point and mentioned in first. Why
you accepted this topic when she uploaded her .ppt file when she
registered?. You had the option to go through the files/content of the
author's slides before she/he is going to take that topic. But you did not.
A administrator can restrict these issues and the topics Wimax,.etc. Why we
did not restrict them before we prepared the schedule?. I am sure, we did
not yet defined our proper terms & conditions for Projects/demos/talks. Its
some thing like our Administration fault. Not the speaker's mistake.
b.WiMAX from Bannariamman College. This was on non-free licence. We asked
them to stop demoing and only talk about concept.
c.Online Insurance from SACS Engg college Madurai, which was on Websphere
and DB2.
I didn't want to create a scene by asking the (b) and (c) to get out,
as they were innocent students, who really didn't realise the nuances of
FOSS. We politely told them to talk about the design, concept, alogorithm
etc, duly avoiding the software side.
Personally, I dont thing these are the -ve side. Till now, we people are
doing mistakes and learn it from them. FOSSConf's target audience are very
beginners. There is no meaning, we can expect them immediatly. This is may
be the chance to share their knowledge on technologies side. Who knows, may
be some one can interested to develop a open source equvalent to WiMax,
learn from a non-free license like WiMax.
I apologize for the mistakes. We should have taken more care. We passed on
the responsibility to the students team, as TCE team is well aware of FOSS
and its philosophy. Anyway no point in blame game, the mistake is a
mistake.. Let me accept it. We will be stricter next time.
However, what pained me most was the NRCFOSS slide thing, and unjustifiable
reply on this aspect going on in mailing list. We should learn to come with
the right hat for right show.
Learning to accept our mistakes, introspecting on them will avoid future
mistakes. Justifying them will never help.
Once again I apologize,
Apologize is not the solution for -ve points. We have to recetify it. In the
next Fossconf, defined the terms and conditions for Speakers section and add
like should upload the slides in .odp/pdf format. Talks and the contents
should be related to open source.
What about the source code for all project demonstrations? If they upload it
before they attend the fossconf, then I suggest you to add this point into
+ve side and post that link here.
If not, please mention this point as a first point in the -ve side. I have
few T&C in my mind as of now.

Project Demos:
* Should be a Open Source license.
* Source code should be available in the internet before participate in
Fossconf and provide that link, while a participant register for project
demo.
* Keep the copy of the source code of that project in project demo.
* What is your discusiion media: IRC/FORUM/MAILING LIST/Others. Please
mention.
* Did you got any internship/sponsers from any company/govern.org/college?.
Mention.
* Already particiapted projects will not be allowed to particiapte again.
They can apply for "Demo stall".

Talks:
=====
* Your talk should be related to open source [I am not sure about it.]
* Your slides should be in .odp or pdf format while you upload.
* Content of the slides should be from open source environment/tools..
* Define your target audience : Beginners/Intermediates/Experts. So that we
can segregrate them and mentioned about this topic to the audience. I
remember in Fossconf 2008, lots of advanced topics was there.
