use vncviewer and then try

available from the same site

Fine I have already tried that as I said in my previous mail.  xterm is
displayed in a new virutual X window.  But how to connect the Xclient
program (xchat) from the server (debain) to this virtual X server.

  debian$ DISPLAY="<rhip>:1" xchat

  is not working anyways!

Tom Jose Tharayil said:
how did you invoke the viewer ??

Oops, I forgot to invoke the viewer. Now VNC desktop window is being
displayed, with xterm in it.

The server was started like this
  # /usr/lib/X11/bin/vncserver :1

And from the debian server (Xclient), I did this

  $ DISPLAY="<rhip>:1" xchat

... still getting the same problem ....!!

Well, seems like VNC itself is not working for me.  In display 1
(ctrl+f8) though active, no xterm is being displayed.  But `ps` shows
Xvnc running!!

I am still looking at some way to get X apps running in
(displayless)
server.

Tom Jose Tharayil said:
something like
xhost +127.0.0.1
xhost +192.168.253.128

  I tried doing this before
  $ xhost +
  with no success

or
/usr/lib/X11/bin/vncserver :1

VNC is not installed in RH.

,----
|    There is  a debian linux  server with X  and some X
programs (like | xchat) installed.   I am working from node
(running RH7.3) connecting | with  that server.   Since IRC,
FTP, etc  can be used only  from the | debian server I wanted to
run  xchat in debian, but the display should | be on RH7.3.
|
|    The problem is nothing is happening when typed this
|
|  $ DISPLAY="ipaddressofRH:0.0" xchat
`----

did you do 'xhost +' on the X Server (RH)?
