I have installed Ubuntu Dapper Beta on my T41. Thanks
to Balu ("bman4344") for the quick download.
Installation was smooth.
I am currently testing Tamil support in this distro. I
have installed ttf-indic-fonts, scim,
gnome-language-ta et. al.
* Able to use tamil keyboard input (unicode and
written tamil form) with Gedit, Gaim, Abiword, Vim and
Mozilla Firefox.
* Gnome tamil interface is also good.
* I am not using transliteration, and don't want to
use any software that does it. Prefer to type fully in
Tamil.
* Have setup CAPS lock key to switch between US and
tamil unicode.
* த +ு = து
த +ூ = தூ
which is the same as our written tamil.
* Gaim, Firefox and Gedit automatically do the above
translation as per our written tamil.

* In gnome-termial, when doing a cat on a tamil file,
the "dots" are printed separately, and certain
double-characters are interchanged:

Is anyone else experiencing this in your distro?
* When I type in Abiword and export it to .html,
certain junk characters get printed before the
double-characters:

1. In UTF-8, with gnome-terminal the characters, dots
get displayed separately. Is it common with other
distros or packages for tamil support? Is there any
other editor that I can use for UTF-8 tamil support
with proper display?
2. How can I generate HTML files with tamil input, or,
do I need to set anything for the junk characters
printed when Abiword (.abw) is exported to html (as
seen from the above)?
