Law enforcement comes at a price. Nobody gets paid to run this list.
Any work done by list admins is gratis and the entire community is
indebted to them for their service. So it's unfair to ask the list admin
or moderators to take action whenever someone breaks the rules.
The whole community needs to take up the responsibility of ensuring
the rules are maintained. Most people play by the rules, but for
several reasons some people don't. Here is a suggestion to anyone,
except list admins, who complains about bad emailing habits:
First, offer the original poster, the offender, a solution to his/her
question. After doing this, you can then complain about their email
habits. Just complaining alone simply adds to the noise.
If you see an social networks invite or an equally silly mistake, then
email the offender privately and make them understand the error.
If they don't get it, exercise your delete button and move on (my
first option is always the delete button).
I've been using this technique for the past few years and am yet to
offended anyone, and at the same time I've managed to preserve
my own sanity.
