Who said so? Never heard of framebuffer?
Press Control+Alt+F1 to get a console, login as user,
and play a movie using mplayer:
mplayer movie.file
OR
mplayer -vo fbdev movie.file
If you have framebuffer support enabled in the kernel,
it should play.
For more options check:
mplayer -vo help
or
playing a game.
Well if the game supports frame buffer output, you can
play it in terminals F1-F6.
And yes, command line rocks!
