Well, I don't know about that! Often, the best way to kill a student's
enthusiasm is by making something a part of the formal curriculum :-) !
I am not all that sure that NRC-FOSS will end up promoting FOSS, after
all. In fact, they may have better success by banning FOSS altogether
in the university curriculum on the grounds that it corrupts the moral
fibre of our vulnerable youth :-D ! A ban is what will make FOSS really
popular among them. But, then again, maybe even a ban won't make FOSS
popular in AU: if I know anything about the pusillanimous students of
AU, I know that they will meekly surrender and do whatever they are
told -- anything so long as it gets them a better CGPA!
Ironically, where FOSS is all about freedom and non-conformance, AU
is all about unquestioning compliance! The very anti-thesis of
creative thought. Pls dont blame the students. It is the faculty, out
of fear that their ignorance will be exposed, that leave no stone
unturned to penalize students for the slightest deviation from the
prescribed path.
