I can understand having less rules is the way to have complete
freedom. But I have to disagree with you when it comes to not
following the guidelines which this (or any) mailinglist participants
expected to follow.

The guidelines are there because of the nonsenses full freedom brings
along with itself. People who wrote it would have suffered the
consequences of full freedom so they came up with these guidelines for
any online community to conduct itself in a good way.
This is the same problem we are facing when it comes to BSD license vs
GPL. Corporates love BSD so that they can abuse it as much as they can
because of the freedom it gives, but the legal office of a corporate
will think atleast once before they start abusing GPL.
People may think all these etiquette/rules/guidelines sound like a
complete crap in the year 2020, but GPL helped Linux kernel to stay
relevent in this year, so these kind of rules (or I would say
guidelines) are still relevent for a mailinglist to ask its
participants to atleast try to follow.
