Reading MKS' mail (asking for suggestions for this syllabus), I thought 
that this elective course would be more oriented towards the philosophy 
behind FOSS (motivation) and techniques, tools, customs, culture, etc. 
in a FOSS development environment, which may provide them with the urge 
and skills to involve themselves in FOSS development.  Of course, this 
will also help them in whatever commercial job they get into.

The syllabus given here is also nice.  But, in my personal opinion, it 
may better be called a *system administration* course, since it is more 
oriented towards _configuring_ certain applications/server/etc.  Of 
course, units like Linux OS Kernel, network programming, compiler design 
and programming tools are interesting.  But is the time enough ?

This is just my personal opinion.
