Saves creates hidden information.

I remember recently someone at Microsoft releasing a public
statement on their website in word format with all the hidden
text still present. Maybe they forgot to use this:

Yep. Microsoft provides a tool to remove such information if you so desire.
The point I wished to make is that the information is required for the
features it provides; I really can't see how a document preparation
system can offer version control as a feature if it doesn't store
information about previous versions.
Anyway, I never circulate Word documents, I rely on PDFs.
