Hi Shrini,
There is only one issue I found. Most of the speakers used windows for
presentations and demos. I cant resist this. Being part of Free Software
Communities, we should believe what we preach. If we dont believe free
software as the base OS, who will listen to us?
This one issue is the *most important issue* which I have seen in few other
SFD events.
During the demo session, I noticed that the presenter(s) were using only
proprietary OS and installed some FLOSS software for demo which is totally
against the spirit of SFD and promotion of free software among the general
public.

to teach her/him to use linux.
This is a long-standing problem which happened not only this time, but also
happened during the previous SFD events.
To overcome this problem, I have developed a better solution for this.
Recently I have created a customized Live distro based on Lubuntu 20.04.1
by including a total of 8500+ packages which has almost all FLOSS tools
that has been developed by the free software community over the period of
3+ decades.
Advantages:
1. This is a very lightweight Linux distribution which can be used even on
very old computers (can even run on Pentium Dual Core with 1GB RAM)
2. Optimized for good speed (can boot in Text mode as well in GUI mode.
Text mode booting takes only 125+ MB memory and GUI mode takes about 600+
MB memory which is very decent to try in all types of computer hardware)
3. A perfect solution for regular use/demo/events without any
installation. The user can install the OS whenever interested.
4. The main focus of the distribution is for self learning (all my students
initially used to boot from the pendrive and took up online training.
After getting comfortable and having a good understanding of LInux OS, they
installed it in their laptops and now use it as their primary OS). Of
course I strictly restrict them not to join the online training program
using proprietary OS.
5. All applications in the OS are updated once in a week and it always
remains the latest
Though several Linux distributions exist, this one is specially made for
the people who want to try Linux without any fear of installation and also
try using as many as applications they want (of course, this distro has
everything. If you just name it, then it will have it).
Atleast for the public events like SFD, we should be very rigid on showing
only Linux OS. We should live what we speak. Otherwise, we will be
preaching fake things only.
In my early days of using Linux (since 1997), I had a dual boot system
where very few things I could do only in proprietary OS. This gave me a
frustrating experience and made me completely switch to Linux since 1998
and there has been no looking back since then.
Since then my life has changed. The decision was, if there is anything
that I could do only in a proprietary OS, then better not to do that thing
at all.
Yes. All my preaching was only after practice.
As you have mentioned, we should be very rigid on showing only Linux OS in
all the upcoming free software events and anyone who preaches things should
follow themselves.
Linux gave me loads of knowledge, job, fun, tech/non-tech skills. Linux
Users Groups are the reason for it. A LUG can change many people lives.
ILUGC gave me more than my Engineering college/degree gave. I want the same
sprint to be alive in all LUGs we have. The taste of software freedom
should reach all the LUG members. It can happen only when we live a open
source way, in all possible ways.

For me, it gave me an identity (of course, I am being called as 'linux
baskar').

that happens in free software events.
