"Dependencies" do hold on Gentoo. The point is, its _supposed to be_ easier
to 'emerge package' on gentoo and expect gentoo to automagically download,
and build the package on your behalf. Almost all package management tools
have these dependency-trap. Only slackware doesn't care about it.
what i am asking is this... can a gentoo user download a package from
any arbitrary source and expect portage to automagically compile it
for him, taking care of the dependencies.
Yes, as long as the version of the package matches to the ebuild file stored
in the portage repository. But doing so, is a pointless effort IMO.
