I've been using the CFQ I/O scheduler on one of my machine (VIA
C3/733MHz/128MB RAM), and I find movies and music to play more smoothly with
this one.
Thanks, I'll check this one out. My configuration for the machine on which
I tested Xine on 2.6.8.1 is *exactly* the same, Via C3/733/128MB. The main
idea behind the 2.6 upgrade was that it was impossible to do DVD playback
on 2.4 on this machine - it dropped too many frames. Using 2.6, it's much
better, but of course the poor FPU performance of the C3 is a
limiting factor.
Have you tried VeXP on your machine? This is a specially patched version
of Xine that's been released by Via primarily for C3 CPUs and Via graphics
chipsets. I haven't tried it yet - I'm still on stock Xine 0.9.13.
