you can mug up and pass RHCE. There are institutes in Mumbai who will
give you a full set of likely scenarios and train you up to pass at a
cost of 4k. I have met several RHCE's who know zilch about
systemsadministration. I do agree that if a person trains himself for
RHCE and does the exam in the spirit in which it is designed, the
certificate is worth happening. But how do you find out how he did
it? I remember a lug list where and RHCE was enquirying in general
how to set up a mailserver ...
The sys-admin at a company I used to work for, had his RHCE
credentials prominently displayed in his cube. But he was like a fish
out of water on Linux, and was generally of no help whatsoever in
sorting out the networking issues we faced. Recently a friend of mine
interviewed a similar guy with ten years experience and currently
working for the world's most famous linux distro. Anecdotal evidence
? Yes. But there is too much of it. We are the world's foremost
experts in beating any exam/testing system. Ignore this fact and you
will most probably end up paying the price down the road.
