Vanakkam,
I have a 80 GB external USB hard disk.
Now I would like to have an OS installed on it and if needed when I boot my
notebook and choose the USB as first boot device, the OS installed on USB
HDD should boot.
You have a few options :
* Puppy Linux :
http://www.puppyos.com/
* Damn Small Linux :
http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/
* Feather Linux :
http://featherlinux.berlios.de/
These are small distro's < 256M. Add the packages you need after
getting the base distro installed.
And, as Antano said, make sure your motherboard/bios has USB boot
support (all recent ones does).
