All linux distros hanged in the stage of hardware detection.
The reason is that the linux kernal 2.6.17 do not have latest device
drivers. FC6 has got 2.6.18. And with some hacks in BIOS, FC6
installs nicely.
Debian Etch is pre-release software. The final release shall
have 2.6.18, or perhaps 2.6.19; and there should install perfectly
nicely.
In any case, hardware support is now mostly a linux kernel
issue; and as new hardware and new drivers keep coming out, it mostly
becomes an issue of which kernel happens to live on installation
media.
